So who is Bob Ellis and what are his achievements?

Bob first flew solo in a glider aged 16 as an Air Cadet then served in the Royal Air Force for 23 years on the Vulcan, Jet Provost Instructor, Hawk and VC10; he then flew commercially in a Citation business jet and the Airbus A320/321 for 6 years before joining a UK oil refinery as a Process Operator for 8 years. In this last job he built his Vans RV8 kit plane, which took 5 ½ years to complete in his garage and won the best UK Kit Aircraft award in 2012. Now retired Bob flew his first full UK Handicapped Air Race season in 2015 and became the British Air Race Champion with a narrow victory over the previous double winner – “the highlight of my aviation career”.

Bob and his wife Jill have toured the aircraft around the UK, Portugal, Spain, France and Tangier (North Africa). He is looking forward to a different challenge in 2016 of Air Racing Championship racing (mixture of Red Bull and Pylon Racing) as well as defending his British title. He is thrilled to have entered into a partnership with Airglide to promote their surface protectant – in air racing every second counts and keeping the aircraft clean and smooth is a major priority. The results of Airglide are stunning on automotive transportation, and aviation.
